The opulent Derry Barber Company opens – offering world-class, traditional male grooming.

Derry Barber News

The Derry Barber Company has opened its stunning new barbershop at 22 Great James Street Derry. Master barber and founder David Craig is well known as one of Derry’s best barbers. He has over twenty three years experience barbering in Derry and has an extensive and loyal client base.

Commenting on his vision for the business he said: “I wanted to create a high-quality, traditional barbershop that equalled the barbershops that can be found in other major cities across the world. A place where men could come and get quality haircut, and a hot-towel, cut-throat razor shave. A place where men can be men. Too often barbershops are merging into hair salons and whilst this may suit some men, I felt that the tradition of male barbering was being lost. So I aspired to create a male barbershop that was opulent and where the service provided is world class.”

Indeed the 2,000 square foot shop offers just that. On entering the shop you are enveloped in the warm aromas from the quality leather seating, walnut wood paneling, shaving soap suds and bay rum. The barbers are impecably dressed and poised to groom. The shop boasts two of Derrys best male barbers. David Craig and Denis McDermott. “No two heads are the same”  David says. “As a barber I enjoy being constantly challenged  by changing styles and adapting them to suit different hair types, crowns,  hairlines and growth patterns.” Most at home with his comb and seven inch barbering scissors, this old-school flat-top master has an enduring passion for his craft.

For over the past decade Denis McDermott, the first barber has been developing his specialism in creating the modern male hairstyle. He has a wealth of knowledge of the industry products and techniques required for today’s male styles. Keen as mustard, he carries his tools in a holster and is always eager to create masterful styles and smooth shaves. Tiernan McMullan, The Apprentice has been carefully selected to join the team due to the huge potential he has as a barber. He is rapidly learning his craft and ensures that all the customers are welcomed and catered for.

The Derry Barber Company also offers an exclusive out-of-hours barbering service for gentlemen on special request. This Private Members club is ideal for that special occassion or for the high profile visitor to the North West. The barbershop has also been designed to be child friendly, it has a very popular racing car barber chair to help babies and young boys enjoy their first trips to the barbershop. There is a special child friendly waiting area and baby changing facilities on site. The barbershop is also fully wheelchair accessible. It is the first in Derry to have a specially adapted barber station and there is a disabled toilet on site.

The shop opened on the 17th December and the demand for the services the Derry Barber Company provide has been firmly established. “We have been very grateful for the early Derry custom ” said David. “We also have had a range of international clientel in over the festive period. Men from Sweden, Florida, Detriot, Australia and Germany have been calling in for cuts and shaves.”

Indeed, the world-class barbering vision remains intact.
